Colchester 40/40 Ride Report

August 5, 2012

Twenty-two cyclists met at The Alma, Copford Green for Colchester’s annual Tourist Competition event, the Colchester 40/40.

Brian Penny of the South East Group had planned a really nice, scenic route through Feering, Great Tey, Pebmarsh, and onto The Henny Swan (to answer a question about the restaurant). From Great Henny we went through lumpy Lemarsh to Bures, Little Horkesley, West Bergholt, and Eight Ash Green.

The Chelmsford section, having had elevenses at Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree, made it to The Alma in time for lunch and the arrival of the first entrants back. The Alma had an ample menu of smaller dishes such as soup, olives, and a delicious crispy duck salad.

Over lunch Brian made the most of there being so many cyclists from the different Essex CTC sections to get us to try on jerseys from InterBike Schils, where the future Essex CTC jersey will be sourced from. Opinion was that the jerseys were of good quality, but came up rather tight on the waist, and quite long in the arms.

A most enjoyable ride with a nice social afterwards.
